A primary source of strength in the
Department is the staff. The professional staff is comprised
of two laboratory animal veterinarians and a veterinary pathologist
who conduct independent and collaborative research. Many of
the technical staff have worked at the facility for more than
20 years, and this longevity has helped create a unique, stable
relationship between the NHP breeding groups and the caretakers,
resulting in a highly successful breeding and research program.
The DVM staff performs almost all of the animal handling and
technical work for research studies that utilize animals.
Several technicains hold certifications of expertise from
US accrediting bodies. These personnel have a wealth of experience
with the wide variety of animal models required to pursue
the battle against the diseases of Southeast Asia.
The expertise of the AFRIMS professional and technical staff
combine with the Animal Care & Use Program to make this
the premiere animal facility of its kind in Southeast Asia.
