Satellite Laboratories

The central AFRIMS laboratory consists of four buildings: two main laboratory buildings, a five-story administration building, and the separate newly reconstructed veterinary medicine facility.

Kamphaengphet AFRIMS Virology Research Unit

This well equipped remote laboratory was constructed to bring advanced laboratory diagnostic capabilities where they are most needed, in the field. KAVRU’s mission is to serve as a center for studies in Dengue Vaccine Development and emerging diseases.

AFRIMS-Kwai River Christian Hospital Clinical Center

Located in the epicenter of drug resistant malaria, Malaria prevention and treatment have historically been prime objectives at AFRIMS. The development of an effective anti-malarial vaccine is a highly desirable goal, and AFRIMS has ongoing projects to evaluate several promising new vaccine candidates in both laboratory and field studies.

Walter Reed / AFRIMS Research Unit Nepal

The focus of research for this unit has been the epidemiology and pathophysiology of HEV. HEV is a recently identified cause of enterically transmitted viral hepatitis. Recent studies performed by the WARUN laboratory have identified HEV as the major cause of hospitalized jaundice in the region.
